This year many attendees of the Golden Globes chose to take a stand of solidarity wearing an all black ensemble. While I fully support the cause, the fashions worn by the many actresses and actors are still very much the reason I watch these award shows. Now, my life hardly involves the hundreds of award functions the Hollywood elite attend, but wearing similar styles is no less desirable. These were some of my favorite looks of the night along with some similar styles that can be worn in one's daily life.
THE TUXEDO
_________________________________________________________________________________I love when a beautiful actress takes a masculine style and makes it oh so feminine. Claire Foy donned a stunning black, double-breasted tux with a satin peak lapel. I also loved Eva Longoria's black gown with a satin lapel and deep V-silhouette. A full tuxedo outfit might be a bit much for everyday, but a tuxedo blazer can be worn with a t-shirt or blouse for a fun evening look out or to work.
THE HI-LOW STYLE
_________________________________________________________________________________The hi-low look was a front running trend this year. I personally thought this style came and went, but when all-black is the go-to, the silhouette needs to get creative. Heidi Klum, Jamie Chung and Alison Brie rocked this look, all in different textures. I found some similar looks offered on Nordstroms and Bloomingdales, which will most likely find their way into your closet come the summer wedding season.
ONE-SHOULDER
_________________________________________________________________________________So many stars looked ravishing in their one shoulder frocks. Saoirse Ronan, Mary J. Blige and Rachel Brosnahan played up their one-shoulder look with a fabulous adornment. I especially loved this, this and this style from Pixie Market.
SHEER EMBELLISHMENT
_________________________________________________________________________________I love when actresses take risks on the red carpet. While black was meant to symbolize solidarity among Hollywood, it was no less an opportunity to play up with one's style. Kate Hudson looked stunning in her sheer paneled gown while Catherine Zeta-Jones was sexy beyond her years in Zuhair Murad. Though sheer embellishments are no longer a wow-factor like they once were, the actresses all looked radiant..
VELVET
_________________________________________________________________________________
It is safe to say velvet isn't going anywhere. When Natalie Portman and Viola Davis among many others wear the sumptuous fabric, we know it is going to be the big fabric of the season. It will be more curious to see how velvet evolves in the spring season. Maybe pink velvet bikinis will be the swimsuit of the summer!
