THE ONE STAPLE EVERY NYC IT GIRL WILL BE WEARING THIS FALL

(Coat: Tory Burch, Jeans: Citizens of Humanity, Bag: Tory Burch, Boots: Vionic)

Nora Ephron once said that a woman's coat in NYC is the equivalent to one's car in LA. This is the ultimate statement piece, a status symbol you might say, in the city that never sleeps. There is nothing I love more than a cozy coat trimmed in a lux fabric, adorned with embellishments or made up in an all-over print. I've rounded up some of my favorite key coats of the season including some suggestions that are a bit outside the box.

The Printed Piece
I am such a sucker for a good print. In the cooler months we tend to gravitate to solid knits and dark colors, so a bold print is key to stand out from the crowd. This jacquard sweater coat from Tory Burch is made from a beautiful, burgundy wool and trimmed throughout in a white pattern. This specific piece is from last year, but I was able to scour through Ebay to find it and included some similar looks below.

The Dressed Up Jacket
Ladies who lunch in NYC are always wearing glamorous bejeweled coats with big sleeves in sumptuous fabrics. A tweed coat like this one from Julie Brown is interlaced with silver metallic thread and finished with gold sequin adornments throughout. There are several styles you can wear to replicate this look for a dinner date or act as a contrasting piece to your denim weekday looks.

The Coziest Coat
There isn't much I love more than warming up in a cozy, soft jacket or coat. This faux fur number from Adrienne Landau is a fan favorite, but there are so many great options out there these days. I love wearing one in an unexpected hue, this like patchwork coat or this pink option.

The Shearling Lined One
Nothing says luxury quite like a shearling lined coat. I found this leather jacket from Karen Millen last year and always return to it from an elevated look. This is a perfect piece for the transition from the cooler Fall temps to the super cold winter. A leather one like this is ideal to toughen up a holiday look while bopping around from party to party.
