My bridal life is officially behind me. I wouldn't have done anything differently, but it is a bit disappointing to know I will no longer need to head to wedding dress fittings, email with vendors or discuss tuxedo shoe options with my now husband. T and I chose to immediately take a honeymoon one week following the wedding. It was by far one of the best decisions and we chose a paradise island that rivals any vacation we have ever taken.
Cayo Espanto is an island off the coast of San Pedro in Belize. This private island boasts seven villas, each with a dedicated staff with no stone un-turned. Vogue recently named it one of the 5 best private islands, which to my surprise, the article was released while on our honeymoon and only solidified its status as a stand alone fantastic vacation spot. The weather was a high of 82 degrees with bright sun everyday, lending to my sun kissed skin and unfortunately a bit of sunburn.
I chose to pack primarily swimsuits and cover-ups. Shoes and shirts are not required when staying on a private island. Initially I planned to don a white-only look, as an homage to my last days of being an official bride. Once I got to packing though, I couldn't resist some fun colorful looks to incorporate during my island stay.
I found this super cute two-piece look from Asos before flying out to Belize. I love a good matching set, and this ruffle top with a high waisted short was ideal for daytime and dinner on the island.
My first swimsuit by Asos was a perfect transitional piece for my first day on the island. The fun and flirty lace ruffles paired with the high waist bottom was ideal for a day of paddle boarding and fishing.
This is a shot of our private villa. Each door opened during the day, letting in a cool breeze from all angles.
There is nothing like a good one-piece look. This Agent Provocateur swimsuit was a perfect balance of playful and sexy. It is super functional and comfortable, which was a pleasant surprise.
Is this not an incredible view from our dock? I captured a photo of T paddle boarding while he wasn't looking. In case you were curious, he stays loyal to his Vilebrequin trunks. They are by far the best fitting trunks he owns.
My ultimate multi-purpose look! These Isabel Marant pants were worn not only as a beach coverup, but also on my travels through the airport. I always find duality in my pieces and these pants have toured much of the U.S with me in the past year.
I found this Free People dress on sale days before I left ( similar look here and here). I can't wait to wear it this summer with a slip and flip flops around my parent's beach house.
Another multiple-purpose look! I wore this skirt (similar style here) as a beach cover-up while touring the island. The top has a pair of matching shorts which were also worn as a beach cover-up. I coupled these pieces together for a beachy dinnertime outfit.
I love Lisa Marie Fernandez swimsuits. I own one of her high-waisted bikinis that I've worn in the summer months and couldn't resist this one piece with bow ties. I actually purchased this last year, but held on to it for a special occasion.
As we flew out from the island, I captured this aerial shot. You can get a better idea of Cayo Espanto's small size and remote location. Can you dream up a better honeymoon spot?
