New York City can sometimes feel like one big fashion runway. No matter the time or day of the week I always spot a fashionista wearing a coveted bag, must-have shoe or a rare accessory that I lust over for the next month. Living in Manhattan the past few years, I've been able to really hone in on the essential pieces that will always be stylish. I consider these items the survival pieces that stand the test of time and will always be classic coveted items.
1. ADD A POP
Ditch the basic black bag for a bright, pop clutch. Patterns, textures and mixed mediums will really elevate your look. Take a look at the next fashionista at your favorite NYC spot and you will notice her Edie Parker, Loeffler Randall or Clare V handbag is the statement making piece to her ensemble.
2. YOUR COAT IS EVERYTHING
Forget a luxe handbag, a coat is the main status symbol in the city. Ladies with lush coats are always helmed as having "good taste". When the weather drops below 40, your sweater and denim will act as a layering piece under your amazing wool, cashmere, leather or shearling coat. Don't let prices fool you, I have found amazing, form-fitting coats at all price points and always receive compliments.
3. FABULOUS SHADES
Just because it isn't always sunny, doesn't mean you shouldn't own a pair of amazing sunglasses. I personally love a classic pair of Rayban aviators, but a solid pair of sunnies will do. Find ones that look a bit different from your everyday black pair and wear them even when it is raining.
4. THE BOOT
Nothing says chic like a statement boot. When the weather starts to head to that Autumn chill, it is time to bust out those boots. I love a good OTK boot with a mini skirt or midi dress, but an ankle bootie in a fun texture can really make an outfit pop.
5. CHANDELIER EARRING
Earrings have been on everyone's must-have list this Fall season. I personally love a big chandelier earring, but even the most basic gold hoop will make do. Skip the stud and find an amazing, statement-making earring to pair with a basic, black tee. A sure-fire way to elevate your casual Saturday night outfit.
